Bengaluru youth drowns in Cauvery River

Srirangapatna: A 26-year-old youth, who ventured into Cauvery River for a bath, was drowned after he was swept away by strong water force at the Sangama in Srirangapatna yesterday. His body is yet to be traced.

The youth, who was drowned is Ashok, a resident of Yelahanka in Bengaluru. He had come to the Sangama along with his family members and friends for the puja, during which he ventured into the waters for a bath but was swept away.

As heavy rains are pouring continuously in Kodagu and Cauvery River catchment area, there in heavy inflow to KRS Dam and a large quantity of water was being released into Cauvery River from the KRS Dam, which has resulted in water flowing in full force.

Those who saw Ashok being swept way in the river, informed his family members. Srirangapatna Police, who reached the spot, summoned expert swimmers and divers to trace and fish out the body of Ashok but in vain. The body of Ashok is still untraceable.

Srirangapatna Police, who have registered a case, are investigating.
