BHASANGE Balaga’s 11th Anniversary on Nov. 10

Bhaava Samaagama: Light Music by Shankar Shanbhogue

Mysuru: City’s cultural organisation Bhanuvara Sanje Geleyara Balaga, popularly known as BHASANGE Balaga, is a socio-cultural non-profit organisation working for the promotion of Indian Arts and Heritage since 2008, by providing an opportunity for the youth who are in need of a platform, but unable to find one. 

The Balaga endeavors to promote Indian Arts and Cultural Heritage by organising events of Classical Music, Dance, Drama, Folk Arts and all other forms of performing arts. Since its inception, the Balaga has held 85 cultural events.

BHASANGE Balaga is now all set to celebrate its eleventh anniversary on Sunday (Nov. 10) at Vasudevacharya Bhavana of Nadabramha Sangeetha Sabha, JLB Road, Mysuru at 6 pm. 

On the occasion, Balaga will felicitate veteran Karnatak vocalist Rajya Sangeetha Vidwan  Prof. B.S. Vijayaraghavan. Industrialist and art patron K.V. Murthy will inaugurate the programme. H.V. Rajeev, President, District Cooperative Union, will be the chief guest. C.K. Sanjay Kumar, President, BHASANGE Balaga, will preside. 

To commemorate its 86th programme, the Balaga has organised a musical treat “BHAAVA-SAMAAGAMA”, a Kannada Light music programme by renowned singer Shankar Shanubhogue. 

Profile: Shankar Shanbhogue is a renowned name today in the field of Kannada devotional Music and Sugama Sangeetha. His mother was his first Guru who inspired him with the devotional bhajans she would sing at home. Later Shankar was initiated into the world of devotional music by B. Radha Krishna Baliga. 

His formal training under Pandit Mahabaleshwar Bhagavath, Guru Madhav Bhat, Pandit Ramarao Naik, Pandit Rajabhau Sontakke, evolved him into today’s one of the finest Hindustani Classical Music Singers adept in Khayal Singing in both Agra and Gwalior Gharanas. 

He continues his thirst for learning music to this day under the guidance of Pandit Parameshwar Hegde. 

Embracing both Classical as well as light music, Shankar has performed many a concerts in India and abroad including countries like the US, UK, Canada, Dubai, Kuwait etc. His bhajan CD albums in Kannada and Konkani have become very popular among the masses. He has also rendered his voice as a playback singer for many motion pictures and non film musical recordings, has composed music for ballets, musical productions for National Games and Aero India Shows.

On Nov. 10, Shankar will be accompanied by Purushotham on keyboard, Bhimashankar Bidanur on tabla and Gurudath on rhythm pad.  Entry for the programme is free.
