BHIO offers free consultation on World Lung Cancer Day

Mysuru: To mark World Lung Cancer Day, Bharath Hospital & Institute of Oncology (BHIO) has announced a free lung cancer consultation on Aug. 1 from 10 am to 4 pm at its BHIO Day Care Centre in Kuvempunagar.

The initiative aims to promote early detection, timely diagnosis and greater awareness of lung cancer, one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide.

The consultations will be conducted by Dr. K.N. Santhosh Kumar, Consultant Medical Oncologist, Haematologist & BMT Physician. The free consultation is intended especially for smokers, former smokers, individuals exposed to second-hand smoke and those working in polluted environments, who are at a higher risk of developing lung cancer.

Dr. C.B. Avinash, Chief Medical Oncologist, BHIO, said World Lung Cancer Day serves as a reminder of the importance of awareness and timely screening, particularly among high-risk groups. “Through this free consultation, we hope to encourage people to seek expert medical advice without delay, as early diagnosis can save lives and improve treatment outcomes,” he said.

Dr.  K.N. Santhosh Kumar noted that many people ignore persistent respiratory symptoms, leading to delayed diagnosis and treatment. “A timely consultation can help detect lung diseases before they progress. Prevention, awareness and early detection remain the most effective weapons against lung cancer,” he said.
