Mysuru: Farooqia PU College, Tilaknagar, celebrated the bi-centenary of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, a Statesman, Jurist and Educationist, on Oct. 17.
Prof. M. Sayeed Ahmed. Hon.Secretary of the colleg, delivered a lecture on educational contribution of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan.
Born on Oct. 17, 1817 at Delhi, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan studied law from the East India Company College affiliated to Edinburgh University. He was a Judge for a very short period and resigned his job to take up the cause of education.
He founded Madrasatul Uloom in Aligarh in 1875. He was also the Founder of Anglo-Mohammedan Oriental College at Aligarh which led to the establishment of Aligarh Muslim University in 1920.
An author and journalist, he published books titled Asaar-e-Sanadeed (Monuments of Delhi – Historical study), Asbab-e-Bagha-wate Hind (The cause of the Indian Rebelleian of 1857), and a journal “Tahzebul-Aqlaq.”
Taj Mohammed Khan, Hon.Secretary, Rifahul Muslimeen Educational Trust, released the 32nd Volume of Al-Farooq dedicated to Sir Syed Ahmed Khan.
Prof. Riyaz Ahmed, President of RMET, presided. Earlier, the function commenced with recitation of Qirath by Mohammed Bilal Pasha. Namira Fathima compered and welcomed. Abdul Jabbar, Principal, proposed a vote of thanks.
