Mysuru: Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner M.K. Savitha has said that the bicycle track on Vishwamanava Double Road will be rebuilt after completion of the ongoing white-topping work.
“Before the white-topping work began, the DC held a meeting with PWD officials, who assured that the cycle track would be reconstructed after the work was completed. The MCC will also convene a meeting shortly,” she said.
Mysuru Amateur Cycling Association Secretary Lokesh Narasimhachar said that the cycle tracks had been constructed merely as a formality, without consulting cyclists.
“It is disappointing that the tracks are now being removed. The layout itself was unscientific. There should be adequate distance between motor vehicles and cycle tracks. Here, vehicles speed past cyclists at close quarters. Experts should be consulted before taking up such projects,” he said.
JD(S) City President SBM Manju also criticised the removal of the cycle track and questioned the white-topping work.
“Officials are wasting public money by taking up white-topping on a road that was already in good condition. At a time when cycling is being promoted as an eco-friendly mode of transport, an existing project is being damaged for their own interests,” he said.
