Mysuru: Admirers of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda led by former Corporator K.V. Sridhar took out a bike rally from Surya Bakery circle in Hebbal to Kempegowda Circle through Basavanagudi Circle as part of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Jayanti celebrations, here yesterday. They also offered floral tributes to the portrait of Kempegowda at the circle.
Speaking on the occasion, K.V. Sridhar said that several circles have been named in Mysuru city after Nadaprabhu Kempegowda as a mark of respect to the great ruler of Bengaluru. “The Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway junction on Outer Ring Road (ORR) has been named as Kempegowda Circle. But people, who are unaware, call not has Manipal Hospital junction which is not correct. The government instead of just naming the circle must install a statue of Kempegowda and erect name board to offer real tribute to Nadaprabhu Kempegowda,” he added.
Taking exception to District Minister’s absence at Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Jayanti celebrations organised by the district administration, the former Corporator said that it is the duty of the District Minister to pay respect to Kempegowda on behalf of Mysureans.
Siddaramaiah during his first tenure as Chief Minister announced that the government will celebrate Kempegowda Jayanti across the State at district level. But now, Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa, the District Minister of his government is staying away from the Jayanti celebrations which is condemnable. “Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa is not attending the Jayanti celebrations in city for the last three years. We don’t know whether the he is angry against Kempegowda or Vokkaliga community. The District Minister himself must clarify,” he said.
