MCC ties up with Postal Department for hassle-free home delivery
Mysuru: The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has joined hands with the Mysuru Postal Division of the Department of Posts to deliver birth and death certificates to applicants at their doorsteps.
An MoU to this effect was signed yesterday. The service will be formally launched on Nov. 1 and will be available to applicants at the MCC Main Office and all nine Zonal Offices.
MCC Commissioner M.K. Savitha and Senior Superintendent of Posts, Mysuru Division, G. Harish, signed the agreement at a ceremony held at Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Hall in the Corporation Office.
Under the arrangement, applicants seeking doorstep delivery must submit a consent letter along with the address to which the certificate is to be sent. Once the certificate is ready, the Postal Department will deliver it through Speed Post to any address in India.
The recipient will have to pay Rs. 100 as delivery charges to the postal employee at the time of delivery under the Cash on Delivery (COD) system. The facility will spare applicants the trouble of making a second visit to the Corporation Office to collect their certificates.
10,000 people visit every month
Savitha said birth and death certificates relating to events registered within the last two years could be obtained from the respective Zonal Offices. Applications relating to older records had to be processed at the MCC Main Office.
As a result, nearly 10,000 people visit the Main Office every month to obtain birth and death certificates, she said. She added that certificates could not be issued on the day of application and that the process required at least 10 days.
Under the new arrangement, applicants will have to visit the Corporation only once to submit their applications. The certificates will then be sent to their homes in envelopes supplied in advance by the Postal Department.
Postal Department officials Manikumar and Marketing Officer Dr. Suresh Kumar; President of Mysore Association of Hospitals and Nursing Home (MAHAN) Dr. G.R. Chandrashekar; Medical Superintendent of K.R. Hospital Dr. Shobha; Resident Medical Officer Dr. Nayaz Pasha; MCC Executive Engineer K.S. Mrutyunjaya; Assistant Statistical Officer Shankar and representatives of various government and private hospitals were present.
Rs. 50 certificate fee, Rs. 100 postal charge
Applicants seeking doorstep delivery must submit a request form along with their application for a birth or death certificate at any MCC Office counter. No additional payment is required for opting for the delivery service at this stage.
The Corporation will prepare the certificate and hand it over to the Postal Department for delivery through Speed Post. Applicants must pay Rs. 50 to the Corporation as the certificate fee while submitting the application and another Rs. 100 to postal staff when the certificate is delivered.
Those wishing to apply from home can obtain an Indian Postal Order (IPO), download the application form from the Corporation’s website and submit it online without visiting the MCC Office.
