Mysore: The 34th birthday of HH Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje was celebrated in Kagyu Nalanda Institute, the First Tibetan Buddhist camp in Bylakuppe recently.
Speaking on the occasion, titular head of the Mysore Royal Family Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar said that it is the duty of everyone to protect the river catchment areas, especially people of Karnataka should protect river Cauvery. ‘We are ready to lend any support to protect the environment,’ he said and wished the monk on the occasion.
Former Mysuru-Kodagu MP C.H. Vijayashankar, who was also present, made everyone take oath to protect the environment.
As part of the celebrations, tree saplings were planted in and around Nalanda campus.In this campus, with support from Nalanda Institute, sapling plantation was started by MP Kupendra Reddy.
Highlighting the contributions of Maharajas of Mysore, Environmentalist Yellappa Reddy said ‘Protection of Bandipur sanctuary was started by Krishnaraja Wadiyar and Jayachamaraja Wadiyar has written many compositions on Devis and Vanadevi (Goddess of Forest).
MYMUL Director Prasanna, Prof. U.N. Ravikumar, Arpita Pratap Simha, Pushpa Kupendra Reddy, Mittoo Chengappa, Environmentalist Basavegowda, Sirsi Kupendra Reddy, Buddhist monk Thubten, Bylakuppe PSI C.U. Savi, Teaching staff of Rajeshwari Vidya Samsthe and school students were present.
