Bishop Emeritus launches ‘Leaves from the Pages of Time’

Mysore//Mysuru: Two books with the same title on the history of Christianity in the Mysore Mission from 1800 to 2018 — the abridged and the complete work —  ‘Leaves from the Pages of Time,’ authored by Gerald Rodrigues, were released by Bishop Emeritus Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Antony Vazhapilly at a programme held at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Mysuru, on Aug. 4.

The books were released in the presence of Rev. Fr. Dr. John F. Sequeira, Rev. Fr. Gerard Smith and Rev. Fr. Staney D’Almeida, Parish Priest of St. Joseph’s Cathedral and St. Philomena’s Church.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Thomas Antony Vazhapilly highlighted the importance of church history and preservation of historical monuments like the St. Joseph’s Cathedral at the present time.

Rev. Fr. John F. Sequeira, who has penned the foreword to the books, critically analysed the different aspects of the book.

The abridged version contains information that is central to the establishment and growth of Christianity in Mysore, Bishops that served till 2018, the establishment of St. Philomena’s Cathedral and other core information. This version was edited by Gavin Wilson, Head, Department of English, Maharaja’s College, Mysuru.

The complete work is an exhaustive attempt which encompasses what has been said in the abridged version and further goes on to chronologically document the events that have taken place over the last four decades in the Diocese of Mysore and surrounding districts.

The abridged version contains 189 pages and is priced at Rs. 450 while the complete work contains 310 pages and is priced at Rs. 999. Those interested may call Mob: 93433-31671.
