BJP announces candidates for bypolls

New Delhi: The BJP high command on Thursday night announced the list of party candidates for the bypolls to two Assembly segments and one Lok Sabha seat in Karnataka, which is scheduled to take place on Apr.17.

The bypolls to Maski Assembly seat was necessitated by the resignation of the then Congress MLA Pratapgouda Patil  while the bypoll to Basavakalyan Assembly segment was necessitated by the demise of sitting Congress MLA B. Narayan Rao and the bypoll to Belagavi LS seat due to the death of Union Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi.

The BJP has fielded the late Union Minister Suresh Angadi’s wife Mangala Angadi for the Belagavi LS seat, while Pratapgouda Patil will contest on the party ticket from Maski Assembly segment in Raichur district and Sharanu Salagar from Basavakalyan Assembly segment in Bidar district.

The BJP also announced the candidature of former Karnataka Chief Secretary Ratna Prabha for the bypolls to  Tirupati Lok Sabha seat in Andhra Pradesh. Ratna Prabha had joined the BJP two years ago after she retired as Karnataka Chief Secretary.

Congress candidates

Taking a step ahead, the Congress had announced the candidature of MLA Satish Jarkiholi  for the Belagavi LS seat, Basanagouda Turvihal  for Maski Assembly segment and Mallamma Narayanrao, wife of late MLA Narayanrao for Basavakalyan Assembly seat last week.

The bypolls will take place on Apr.17 and the results will be announced on May 2.
