BJP observes ‘Black Day’ on Emergency anniversary

Mysore/Mysuru: The City BJP Unit today observed ‘Black Day’ as a mark of protest against the imposition of Emergency on nation by the Congress Government in 1975.

It was on this day 46 years ago, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had clamped Emergency.

As part of this observation, a Webex meeting was organised by City BJP Unit with a view to tell the present generation about the dark days of Emergency, its effect on nation, curtailment of citizens’ power and stamping out people’s movement. One from each Assembly segment was selected from all eight Assembly Constituencies for online lecture and those eight persons had to add two important persons from each Constituency. Those two had to link with 12 persons in each Assembly segment.

The resource persons were S.R. Gopala Rao, District Convener ‘Black Day’ observation Committee and his brother, S.R.Narayana Rao, who suffered a lot during Emergency. BJP District Rural President Mangala Somashekar and Vice-President Dasaiah were present.

The Rao brothers explained how the country suffered during two years of Emergency when the Government agencies became the puppets in the hands of Indira Gandhi. Those who raised their voice against the then Government were arrested and sent to jail.
