Mysuru: Mysuru District In-charge Minister Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah has accused BJP leaders of trying to derive political mileage from communal incidents, likening them to ‘vultures’ waiting for trouble and deaths.
Speaking to presspersons at the Zilla Panchayat premises here yesterday, Dr. Yathindra alleged that BJP leaders visit places where communal violence occurs and attempt to exploit such incidents for political purposes. He claimed that studies had shown that the BJP had gained politically in places affected by communal violence.
The Minister also accused BJP leaders of failing to raise issues concerning people during the recently concluded Monsoon Session of the State Legislature, including drought and drinking water problems. He alleged that they had boycotted the Assembly proceedings instead of debating issues affecting the people.
“The BJP is only interested in creating communal trouble where none exists,” he alleged.
Referring to the controversy over T. Narasipur Police Inspector Dhananjaya’s remarks regarding the bursting of crackers near a mosque during the Ganesha procession, Dr. Yathindra questioned the need to burst crackers in front of any place of worship.
He said the Inspector had only advised those taking out the Ganesha procession to follow precautionary measures. The BJP was allegedly giving a communal colour to the Inspector’s advice, he said.
Dr. Yathindra also asked BJP leaders demanding the suspension of Inspector Dhananjaya to watch the Inspector’s entire video before making such demands.
‘New house built as per mother’s wish’
On the family’s newly constructed house in Mysuru, Dr. Yathindra said it had been built according to his mother B.M. Parvathi’s wish.
“My father Siddaramaiah comes to the new house in Mysuru once a week for rest. Due to unavoidable circumstances, he had to sell two houses built earlier. Now, we have built a new house as per my mother’s wish and plans. We all, including my father, will stay there,” he said.
The new residence in Kuvempunagar recently hosted a private house-warming ceremony attended by close family members.
