Bengaluru: With the Assembly elections just a few months away, the ruling BJP has planned mega ‘Janotsava’ rallies at 6 prominent places across the State in the months of September and October.
The decision to hold mega rallies comes after former Chief Minister and Lingayat strongman B.S. Yediyurappa’s visit to New Delhi a couple of days ago, during which he met the party’s top brass. The party has entrusted the responsibility of holding the rallies to former CM BSY, State BJP in-charge Arun Singh and State BJP President Nalin Kumar Kateel. The leaving out of CM Basavaraj Bommai from the responsibility has raised several eye-brows in the State BJP unit.
The BJP plans to hold ‘Janotsava’ rally at Doddaballapur on Sept. 8. This mega rally, which was first scheduled to take place on July 28 marking the first anniversary of the Bommai Government, had to be abruptly postponed at the last minute as tension erupted across the State following the murder of BJP Yuva Morcha activist Praveen Nettaru’s murder in Sullila taluk of Dakhsina Kannada district just two days before the rally.
The State BJP has planned to hold the mega rallies after PM Modi’s visit to Mangaluru on Sept. 2. While one of them is scheduled to take place at Doddaballapur in Bengaluru Rural district, the place of five other rallies is yet to be decided, according to sources, which also said Kateel, Arun Singh and BSY will tour the State along with different teams in September and October in order to ascertain the party’s strength.
