Mysore/Mysuru: In a world where the need for blood often outpaces its availability, Manipal Hospital, Mysore, took a vital step toward bridging this life-saving gap through a Blood Donation Camp held on Oct. 31 at its premises in association with Jeevadhara.

Organised as part of the hospital’s continued observance of World Trauma Day (Oct. 17), the initiative saw participation from citizens across Mysuru, reaffirming that compassion and community spirit remain humanity’s most powerful lifelines.

Despite medical advances, there is a constant demand for blood during emergencies especially in road traffic accidents, trauma cases and complex surgeries. Voluntary donations still fall short of need. Addressing this critical reality, Pramod Kunder, Hospital Director, Manipal Hospital said, “Blood is one of the few medical resources that cannot be manufactured; it can only come from generous donors. In trauma care, time and blood are often the two most decisive factors for survival. Through initiatives like this camp, we aim to ensure that no patient’s life is jeopardised due to lack of timely blood availability.”

Rekha Bai, Inspector, NR Traffic Police Station, who was also part of the drive to educate people on Trauma and Emergency said, “As Police Officers, we are often the first to reach accident/crime sites where victims suffer massive blood loss. We see up close how crucial blood availability is in those golden minutes. This camp by Manipal Hospital is more than medical initiative. It dubs as a humanitarian lifeline that can turn tragedy into survival.”

The camp concluded with distribution of certificate of appreciation to every volunteer, donor and staff member who contributed to its success.
