Body of Bengaluru youth drowned in Cauvery River fished out

Srirangapatna: The body of a Bengaluru youth, who was swept away in River Cauvery and drowned after he slipped and fell into the River at the Sangam in Ganjam, Srirangapatna on July 12 has been fished out yesterday.

The body was fished out near the retaining wall of a private power generating unit near Doddapalya in the taluk.

The deceased, identified as Ashok (26), a resident of Yelahanka in Bengaluru, had come to the Sangama along with his family members and friends for the puja, during which he ventured into the waters for a bath but slipped and fell into the River and was swept away.

The Fire and Emergency Services and NDRF personnel had launched a search operation to trace the body of Ashok on July 12 itself and they managed to trace and fish out the body on July 19.

As Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will be offering Bagina at KRS today, authorities had reduced the outflow of water from KRS Dam to the River which helped in tracing and fishing out the body of Ashok, Police said.

Meanwhile, the body of another youth identified as Srujan, who was drowned in the River near KRS Dam, is yet to be traced, according to Police.
