FIR against housing society

Mysore/Mysuru: Lakshmipuram Police have booked a housing society for allegedly cheating a 47-year-old woman of Rs. 28.95 lakh on the pretext of allotting her a residential site.

The society had reportedly convinced the woman that it was developing a residential layout at Varakoodu village in Varuna Hobli of Mysuru taluk.

It claimed that the project had approval under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 (RERA), had GST registration and that it was authorised to collect funds from the public. The society had also cited a partnership with another builder to gain her confidence.

Believing these assurances, the woman paid Rs. 15.45 lakh on July 1, 2024 and later made additional payments, taking the total amount paid to Rs. 28.95 lakh.

However, despite repeated follow-ups, the society failed to register any site in her name and instead kept delaying the process with promises of executing a sale agreement.

Growing suspicious, the woman approached the RERA office directly, where she reportedly learnt that the society was not registered under RERA and had no authority to develop housing layouts.

Based on her complaint, Lakshmipuram Police have registered a case against the society’s President, Vice-President, Secretary and other office-bearers on charges of cheating and misrepresentation.
