Mysuru: Author B. Shamsundar’s work titled Allauddin Khilji Mathu Kuvaralakshma, a book featuring two historical plays, was released by Dr. L.N. Swamy, faculty of History, Vijaya First Grade College, T. Narasipur at a programme jointly organised by Mysuru District Kannada Sahitya Parishat and Mahima Prakashana at Maneyangala in Kalamandira here on Sunday.
Speaking about the book, former Professor of Ancient History and Archaeology Prof. N.S. Rangaraju said that the author has written the two plays without any exaggeration and after a thorough study of historical facts.
Pointing out that Khilji Dynasty ruler Allauddin Khilji and Kuvaralakshma, a Minister in the Hoysala empire were two totally divergent personalities, Prof. Rangaraju said that while Khilji was a cruel emperor, Kuvaralakshma was a compassionate Minister.
Emphasising on the need for the present generation to learn about our history, he said that the book provides a deep insight into the divergent personalities of Khilji and Kuvaralakshma.
Underlining that historical incidents must be seen with a historical background, he regretted the recent tendency of writing history as a prestige issue, focusing only on individual opinions while ignoring historical facts.
