Mysore/Mysuru: The book ‘Memory’s Edge – Living With Loving Through Learning From Dementia,’ authored by Rtn. Arun Belawadi, was released in city yesterday.
The book was released by former Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi Central University, Arunachal Pradesh, Prof. K.C. Belliappa, at a programme organised by Rotary Mysore in association with Unite For Good, at Ideal Jawa Rotary Mysore Centre on JLB road here.
In his observations about the book, Prof. Belliappa said, “It is a reminiscent of memories related to the bonding between a mentally challenged mother and son. The mother, who is not aware about her son, asks about his relationship with her. The son, suppressing all the pain, agony and feelings inside, behaves normally, thus endearing himself with the readers.”
The author, before penning the book, went to Australia, only to learn the nuances related to mentally challenged persons, devoting his wholesome to hone his literary traits. In Indian cinemas, emotional scenes go overboard, leaving the audience with tears at times. However, this book, suppresses the feelings, but manifolds love and respect towards parents, said Prof. Belliappa.
The book is not just confined to words, but builds up several sequences artistically through line drawings. Like how the visuals create an impact even before the words reach, the line drawings aptly sum up the story, providing both empathy and experience, he added. There are references about yoga, meditation, physical activities, exercise and several other topics in the book.
Rotary Mysore District Governor Rtn. P.K. Ramakrishna, Rotary Mysore President Rtn. D. Ravishankar, Secretary Rtn. B. Sanjay, author Rtn. Arun Belawadi and others were present.
