Mysuru: Mysore Literary Association had organised a function at Rotary West auditorium in Saraswathipuram here this morning for the launch of the book ‘Rise of a Barefoot Boy: An Autobiography’ by former Vice-Chancellor of Kashmir University Prof. J.A.K. Tareen.

Releasing the book, Star of Mysore Editor-in-Chief K.B. Ganapathy said that the book bares the politics and manipulations among the faculty members in the University.

Prof. Tareen’s autobiography is also in a way a narrative of the scheming, pride and prejudice of the departmental heads and also some Vice-Chancellors.

He gives credit to Vice-Chancellor Dr. Y.P. Rudrappa who literally fought the communal and caste elements in the University and enabled Dr. Tareen to get the Professorship that he rightly deserved.

Vice-President of the Association Dr. H.S. Shivanna spoke about the book. He  lauded Prof. Tareen, a Mysurean, for his multi-faceted achievements in the field of Education as Head of the Geology Department in Manasagangotri and as the Vice-Chancellor of three Universities, including Kashmir.  He sought a standing ovation from the audience for Tareen’s accomplishments and the audience obliged with a loud round of applause.

Association President K.C. Belliappa welcomed the audience and proposed the vote of thanks.
