Boot Camp on Theoretical and Experimental Phonology at CIIL

Mysuru: A six-day Boot Camp on Theoretical and Experimental Phonology is being organised by the Educational Technology Unit (ETU) of Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysuru, to train the participants on contemporary theories and practices in the area of phonology with their application on field and laboratory data. Participants will be exposed with the most relevant frameworks prevalent in the area of (theoretical and experimental) phonology, and also their comparative preference over each other given choice research focus.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. G. Uma Maheshwara Rao said that there is need of more research in the area of linguistics, particularly phonology. While focusing on the Historical Phonology, he said that the discipline of phonology may be regarded as old as the evolution of human race itself.

Prof. Rajnath Bhat, Professor of Linguistics, Banaras Hindu University, who was the guest of honour and an expert in Boot Camp, called upon the scholars and researchers of the linguistics to come forward to take-up some serious investigations in the area of phonology from the perspective Traditional Indian Schools of Knowledge. 

Prof. D.G. Rao. Director, CIIL, in his presidential remarks said that young scholars should make use of this rare opportunity by interacting with the experts in the field of Linguistics, especially phonology and sound concern.

Prof. P. Perumal Swamy, Professor-cum-Deputy, Director of CIIL and Head of ETU welcomed. Dr. Aleendra Brahma, LJRO, CIIL, proposed a vote of thanks.

Dr. Pankaj Dwivedi, Lecturer cum Junior Research Officer (LJRO), CIIL & Officer in-charge of ETU, CIIL and the coordinator of the workshop spoke about the modus operandi and conceptual working of the boot camp.

Ten experts in the area of Linguistics and Phonology from various Universities, IITs and other institutions will train the participants in the areas relevant to the theme of the boot camp.

Forty teachers and research scholars from various Universities, IITs, NITs and other institutes of the country are participating in this workshop which began on July 22.
