Boy dies after slipping and falling into canal

Mysore/Mysuru: A 17-year-old boy, who had gone for a morning walk along with his friend died after slipping and falling into a sub-canal near Lalithadripura here yesterday morning.

The deceased boy is Manoj, son of City Armed Reserve (CAR) Sub-Inspector Mahadevaswamy and a resident of Police Layout 3rd Stage in city.

Yesterday morning, Manoj, who went for his morning walk along with his friend, went to the Varuna Sub-Canal between Lalithadripura and Yandalli to fetch water after attending nature’s call when he reportedly slipped and fell into it.

Though his friend tried to rescue Manoj, his efforts went in vain and Manoj got drowned, it is learnt. Manoj’s father, who rushed to the spot, informed the matter to the Police and Fire Brigade personnel, who rushed to the spot and with the help of expert swimmer Kenchappa, a search was conducted and the body was fished out from the canal.

Mysuru South Police, who conducted mahazar, registered a case and shifted the body to MMC&RI mortuary where post-mortem was conducted and the body was handed over to the family members.

Last rites were held at Horeyala village in Gundlupet taluk yesterday evening, according to family sources.
