Mysore/Mysuru: Mahadeva, a 45-year-old farmer, who was declared brain-dead following severe head injury, has saved the lives of four persons by donating his organs.
Mahadeva’s kidneys, heart valve and corneas were harvested for saving the lives of people who are in need of organs for their survival after his family’s consent.
A native of Lakshmipura village near Saligrama in K.R. Nagar taluk, is a farmer who comes from a very poor economic background. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
Mahadeva, on Oct. 20, had sustained severe head injuries after he fell-down losing his balance in his farm land. He was rushed to the Saligrama Hospital where he was given first-aid treatment and was later admitted to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru.
However, as Mahadeva did not respond to any treatment, he was later shifted to Trauma and Emergency Care Centre at Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMC&RI).
As Mahadeva failed to respond to any treatment provided by the expert doctors, he was declared brain-dead. His family was counselled for organ donation as per the defined protocols and the deceased patient’s family members came forward to donate his organs.
As per organ donation protocols, two kidneys, heart valve and corneas were harvested to four patients in Bengaluru.
Thanking the deceased patient’s family for the noble cause of promoting organ donation, Mahadeva’s body was handed over to the family.
Trauma and Emergency Care Centre Special Officer Dr. S. Deepak, doctor’s team, nursing staff and Paramedical team successfully completed the Organ Retrieval procedure.
