Bribe for providing justice: Metagalli Inspector, Constable in ACB net

July 9, 2020

Mysore/Mysuru: Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths on Wednesday have arrested the Inspector and a Constable, attached to Metagalli Police Station, while accepting a bribe of Rs. 75,000 from the brother of a rape victim, to provide justice.

The arrested are Inspector B. Raghavendra Gowda and Constable Bheemanna. The Police personnel were caught red handed yesterday evening while accepting the bribe of Rs. 75,000 from the victim’s brother at a lodge near Karnataka State Pollution Control Board Office near Royal Inn junction on the Ring Road.

Details: Metagalli Police, on June 15 had registered a First Information Report (FIR) No. 58/2020 and had registered a case of rape under IPC Section 417, 376 and 420 against one Premkumar, a resident of Hebbal Layout near Madegowda Circle following a complaint from the woman. The woman, in her complaint, had stated that Premkumar had sexually assaulted her after promising to marry her.

The victim and her relatives had demanded the Police to arrest the accused, but the Police were unable to arrest the accused as he had gone absconding. The victim’s brother, who learnt that the accused had secured anticipatory bail recently, had approached the Inspector seeking his help to talk to the accused and get his sister (victim) married to him (accused).

But the Inspector, who demanded Rs. 1.5 lakh bribe for the help, had received Rs. 75,000 as advance about four days ago, but the Inspector and the Constable were caught red handed by the ACB sleuths while accepting the remaining Rs. 75,000 from the victim’s brother last evening at the lodge.
