Bringing back students from Ukraine: Minister asks officials to be in touch with Nodal Officers

Mysore/Mysuru: With the Union Government launching ‘Operation Ganga’ to safely evacuate Indian students stuck in war-torn Ukraine, Mysuru District In-charge Minister S.T.Somashekar has asked the district administration to be in constant touch with Nodal Officers appointed for the purpose.

Addressing a meeting of officials at the Government Guest House here yesterday, Somashekar sought data on the number of students and others from the district who are trapped in strife-torn Ukraine.

Asserting that the State Government is doing its best to bring back stranded students from Ukraine, the Minister said that local officials must be in regular touch with the State Government appointed Nodal Officers.

Stressing on the need for instilling confidence among parents of students, he directed the officials to continuously monitor the situation until the last student from the district is brought back from Ukraine.

Minister seeks latest COVID situation inputs

The Minister sought inputs on the latest COVID situation in the district. District Health Officer (DHO)  Dr. K.H. Prasad said that COVID positive cases are on the decline steadily in the district and the pandemic is under control. Pointing out that the district has achieved cent percent vaccination of first dose and 96 percent of second dose, he said that the district has enough stock of the vaccine and there is no cause for worry.

DC Dr. Bagadi Gautham said that though COVID is steadily declining, COVID protocol is being strictly followed. Pointing out that Shivaratri celebrations in the district has been allowed as per norms, he said that the people have been asked to adhere to COVID appropriate behaviour. Mayor Sunanda Palanetra, MUDA Chairman H.V. Rajeev, Jungle Lodges and Resorts Chairman M. Appanna, City Police Commissioner Dr. Chandragupta, ZP CEO B.R. Poornima, Additional SP R. Shivakumar, DDPUE Srinivasmurthy, DDPI Ramachandraraje Urs, MUDA SE Shankar and others were present.
