Mysore/Mysuru: Buddha Poornima was celebrated this morning in city without traditional large gatherings due to restrictions.

At Vishwa Mythri Buddha Vihara located near Ashoka Circle (Ballal Circle), devotees offered prayers in small groups. Kalyanasiri Bantheji graced the occasion. Chamarajanagar MP V. Sreenivasa Prasad and former Mayor Purushotham were present. Buddha Vandana, Dhamma Vandana, Sangha Vandana, Dhyana and other traditional rituals were held in which participants offered prayers in small groups.

Karnataka Buddha Dhamma Samiti had organised an event at Samiti premises in Vijayanagar First Stage.

Every year, Buddhist monks celebrate Buddha Jayanti in a grand manner at Namdroling Monastery in Bylakuppe.

From 20 years, on this day, they used to offer special prayers to 180 feet statue of Buddha Shakyamuni (Gautama Buddha) and showcase Thangka paintings. But today, due to Coronavirus outbreak, the Namdroling Monastery decided to offer prayers without much fanfare and the monks offered prayers in their rooms.
