More than 300 journalism students of various colleges in Mysuru and Mandya districts attended a training camp in city this morning. It was organised by Karnataka Media Academy (KMA) at Cauvery Auditorium of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) in Mukthagangothri.
Speaking after inaugurating the camp, senior journalist Krishna Prasad said that advent of technology, social media and gadgets for speedy communication had strengthened journalism as news, which used to emerge from ‘Top to Bottom’ earlier now flows from ‘Bottom to Top.’
Elaborating on the effect of demonetisation, the senior journalist said that the same had resulted in Ananda Bazar Partika and Hindustan Times closing down their publications.
Stating that over 5,000 million copies of various newspapers published mainly in India and China were reaching only 23 percent of readers, Krishna Prasad urged students to make full use of available technology and prepare unbiased news items instead of being carried by the lure for sensational news stories.
Lauds ‘SOM’: Later, interacting with the students, Krishna Pasad said that Star of Mysore, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary tomorrow, has emerged as one of the most popular English Eveningers in the country.
Academy Chairman Siddaraju, Secretary S. Shankarappa, members K. Shivakumar, Rudranna Harthikote, T.S. Ramanna, B. Venkata Singh and and Muttu Naikar, Journalist Ravindra Bhat Ainakai were among those present.
