Building an equal society is the best respect for Babuji: CM

Mysore/Mysuru: Asserting that building an equal society is the best respect that we can give for Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram (Babuji), Chief Minister Siddharamaiah said we have to fight the forces that attempt to distort or weaken the Constitution.

He was speaking after releasing writer Harish Kumar’s work ‘Aadhunika Bharatada Nirmatru Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram’ and ‘Babuji Chitra Samputa’ at a programme organised under the joint aegis of Gandhi Vichara Parishat and Social Justice Foundation at Kalamandira here Saturday.

Observing that Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram was a Statesman- politician, Siddharamaiah opined that any work for saving Democracy and the Constitution is the best possible way for respecting our leaders who fought for our freedom.

Noting that there are vested interests all the times, he stressed on the need for identifying them and weaken them.

Continuing, Siddharamaiah said that the intention of any Government should be to implement the Constitutional aspirations in accordance with the provisions. At the same time, the objective of everyone is to build an equal society with an aim of removing poverty, hunger, unemployment, illiteracy and the like. We should also work towards building the nation as dreamt by great leaders such as Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru and Babuji, he added.

District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa, in his address, said that Babuji contributed a lot for self-sufficiency in food through Green Revolution. He has also contributed a lot by serving as the Union Defence, Railway, Labour, Irrigation and Agriculture Minister, he added.

Former MLA and Congress leader Dr. Yathindra Siddharamaiah too spoke. Former University of Mysore Prasaranga Director and writer Prof. C. Naganna spoke about the book.
