600-700 rooms to be added in the next three years
Mysuru: Following the acquisition of Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel in city by the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), which operates the Taj brand, the city is poised for a significant expansion in its hospitality sector.
According to industry sources, Mysuru is expected to add between 600 and 700 hotel rooms over the next three years.
ITC Hotels has already announced the signing of a 99-key Welcomhotel in the city. Meanwhile, Chennai-based Residency Hotels is constructing a 100-key property on Valmiki Road with an investment said to be around Rs. 50 crore. The hotel is aimed at catering to both leisure and business travellers.
Bengaluru-based Farah Builders is also developing a 115-key Vivanta Hotel by IHCL on KRS Road at Metagalli. In addition, Radisson Hotels is reportedly planning a new property on Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway near Manipal Hospital Junction.
Industry sources also indicate that Marriott is considering a 233-key hotel on Hunsur Road, although the project is yet to be officially confirmed.
Speaking to Star of Mysore, C. Narayanagowda, President of Mysore Hotel Owners Association, said that the city has witnessed a steady rise in tourist arrivals in recent years.
“The demand for hotel rooms increases during weekends. The addition of new hotels will further boost tourism. If more flights are introduced to Mysuru, it will also attract more business travellers, benefiting the hospitality industry,” he said.
Catering to evolving customer preferences
According to industry stakeholders, the upcoming properties will be designed to cater to both business and leisure travellers.
Most of these hotels are expected to feature banquet halls, reflecting Mysuru’s growing reputation as a preferred destination for weddings, conferences and social events. They will also offer multi-cuisine restaurants and modern amenities in line with evolving customer preferences.
Welcoming the investments, Mysuru Travels Association (MTA) President C.A. Jayakumar said that the entry of leading hotel brands would strengthen the city’s tourism infrastructure and create employment opportunities.
“It is encouraging to see major hotel chains choosing Mysuru for expansion. These projects will not only increase tourist footfall but also generate jobs. Mysuru is growing rapidly and with only a limited number of premium hotels at present, the city certainly needs more quality accommodation,” he said.
