BVB’s Kalabharati to host vocal concert by Rao R. Sharath on Nov. 18

Mysore/Mysuru: As part of its monthly programme, the Kalabharati wing of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (BVB), Mysuru Kendra, has organised a vocal concert by Rao R. Sharath at Prof. Y.T. Thathachari Auditorium in BVB premises, Vijayanagar 1st Stage on Nov. 18 at 6 pm.

Sharath will be accompanied by Vid. Pradeshachar on violin, Nikshit Puttur on mridanga and Vid. B.S. Raghunandan on ghata.

The programme will be inaugurated by BVB Mysuru Chairman K.B. Ganapathy at 5.30 pm with prayer by students of the Karnatak Music Division of Kalabharati. BVB Member  Dr. Tulasi Ramachandra will introduce the artiste.

Artiste’s profile

Rao R. Sharath is one of the pre-eminent vocalists in the rigorous Karnatak tradition of India’s classical music. He has done BE in Information Science from APS College of Engineering and M.Music from University of Mysore (UoM). Currently he is pursuing Ph.D in Karnatak Music at UoM under the guidance of Dr. M. Manjunath.

He has got vocal training from Shantha S. Rao (1991-2003), then advanced music lessons from Rajkumar Bharathi (2003-2010) and Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna (2013-2016). Sharath’s first concert was at the age of 7, at Ragi Gudda Temple, for the Youth series organised by Sangeetha Academy. Since then, he has travelled widely in India and given over 1,000 concerts.

In addition to his solo concerts, he has collaborated on stage with creative artistes across fields of music, dance and theatre — representing both Indian and non-Indian traditions.

Over the past 16 years, teaching has been at the core of Sharath’s musical engagement.  Students from North America and Europe come to spend months at a time learning from him, in addition to the numerous students from across India.

Sharath is the recipient of over 25 awards and honorific for his music and contributions.
