C. Basavegowda loses MCDCC Bank Director’s post

Mysuru: The Mysuru Region Joint Cooperative Registrar’s Court has ordered the cancellation of C. Basavegowda’s post as the Director of Mysore and Chamarajanagar District Central Cooperative (MCDCC) Bank.

During the elections for the Director’s post held on November 22, 2013, Basavegowda had contested from Rangasamudra Primary Agricultural Credit Cooperative Society in T. Narasipur and had won the elections.

Challenging this, Y.N. Shankaregowda of Yachenahalli Primary Agricultural Credit Cooperative Society had filed a petition in the Mysuru Region Joint Cooperative Registrar’s Court.

According to Shankaregowda, as Basavegowda was not a resident of Rangasamudra, he was not eligible to contest from there and his continuance in the MCDCC Bank is against the law.

The petitioner demanded re-election to Rangasamudra Primary Agricultural Credit Cooperative Society.

Hearing the petition, the Registrar’s Court observed that as per Cooperative Societies rules, a candidate wishing to contest in the elections must be a resident of the Co-operative Society’s jurisdiction since one year.

But C. Basavegowda, a resident of Mysuru, had shifted his residence to Rangasamudra two months before the elections and his name was included in the voters’ list.

The Court ruled that Basavegowda’s election in 2013 for Mysuru District Central Cooperative Bank was illegal as he was not a resident of Rangasamudra then.

The Court cancelled election results and has asked the Bank Chief Executive Officer to conduct a re-election as per rules.

Meanwhile, MCDCC Bank President S. Chandrashekar has said that it was unfortunate that Basavegowda, who had got the “Sahakara Rathna” award, has lost his post as he provided false information about his residency.

‘WILL MOVE COURT’

Reacting to the Court ruling, C. Basavegowda said that when he had filed nomination papers for the Director’s election, his name was removed from the voters’ list.  “I had moved the Karnataka High Court against this and had obtained a stay. They had cited a few reasons while they removed my name from the voters’ list and have mentioned the same reasons to remove me from the Director’s post despite the High Court stay. I will fight this in the Court,” Basavegowda said.
