Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G. Sankar has suggested officials concerned to organise a workshop for cable TV operators of the district who could be educated on Cable Television Network Rules by experts.
He was chairing the District Cable Television Network Executive Committee meeting at his office here on Tuesday.
The DC contended that local cable operators were not very conversant with cable TV Act and rules. He hence suggested the officials to organise a workshop in that context either by end of December or in January next.
He said that caution should be exercised to ensure that no TV programme or advertisement focuses on any religion to hurt the sentiments of any community which could disturb peace in society. If public register a complaint on the breach of rule with the Department of Information and Public Relations, action should be initiated on the offender, he explained.
Continuing, the DC said that any breach of rule should be brought to the notice of the State and Central Governments.
He pointed out that local TV channels should be closely monitored for the content of programmes and news and ensure that fake channels do not crop up, and asked the Committee to monitor the availability of free and paid TV channels to customers.
Department of Information Public Relations Assistant Director R. Raju briefed the meeting on the salient points of the cable TV Act and added that strict action would be taken if valid complaints are registered by customers on any TV programme. He said that the district has about 300 cable TV operators who should be groomed on the cable TV Act.
