Call for publishing medical books in Kannada

November 9, 2024

Mysuru: Noted Psychologist and Padma Shri award winner Dr. C.R. Chandrashekar has stressed on the need for publishing medical books in Kannada as it will largely help in providing medical information to the masses and sharing the experiences of Doctors in their profession.

He was speaking on the second day of the two-day ‘Dhamani-2024’ programme organised by Kannada Sangha of MMC&RI at the Platinum Jubilee Auditorium in J.K. Grounds here recently. The day marked Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations.

Pointing out that Doctors should also give importance for imparting health education, Dr. Chandrashekar called upon the Doctors to speak Kannada as much as possible and to understand the language of the rural masses.

He also emphasised on the need for doctors to talk with affection with everyone and at the same time ensure that the spirit of Kannada in them does not die down.

He cited many examples of excellent medical books in Kannada such as Dr. D.S. Shivappa’s Vaidyakiya Padakosha, Dr. P.S. Shankar’s Vaidyakiya Vishwakosha, Dr. Anupama Niranjana’s Taayi Mattu Magu, Dr. S.J. Nagalotimath’s Srisamanya Mattu Vaidya, Dr. Leelavati Devadas’ Naanu Gowriya Garbhakosha, H.D. Chandrappa Gowda’s Vaidyadhikariya Baduku Mattu Bavane and the works of Dr. S. Girijamma, Dr. C. Annapoornamma, Dr. Na. Someshwara, Dr. Ashok Pai and others.

Noting that about 150 authors may have written medical books in Kannada till now, he advised the MMC&RI Kannada Sangha to introduce these medical authors to the people by coming  up with a booklet providing information on all of them.

MMC&RI Dean and Director Dr. K.R. Dakshayani, in her address, said that the MMC&RI, which is celebrating its Centenary this year, is holding a two-day Kannada Rajyotsava programme this year featuring a variety of cultural programmes, instead of one-day programme as in the past. It is delightful to note that the MMC&RI heads the Kannada Sangha formed this year, which is inclusive of over 70 Government and Private Medical Colleges in the State, she added.
