Mysuru: “The second round of TB Detection Andolan will be held on Jan.12 and we have taken an oath to make Mysuru a TB-free district,” said District TB Control Officer Dr. Ravi.
The TB Control Movement has started throughout the district from Jan.2. “Treat TB as an enemy and patient as friend” is the slogan with which this movement started for control and treatment of TB (Tuberculosis), he said.
In the region where the cases of TB are on the rise, the officials are going door-to-door and conducting sputum tests and taking X-rays free of cost. Those detected with TB are being given free medicines. The teams are formed for a population of 50,000 to 60,000 and the detection efforts are going on, he said.
Some of the common symptoms of TB are if the cough persists for more than two weeks, sometimes sputum seen mixed with blood, loss of weight, high temperature or fever, night sickness, sweating etc. With continuous treatment TB can be cured, said Dr. Ravi.
This disease is commonly found in slums, among beedi worker groups, HIV infected, people with diabetes, those who use tobacco products. Hence awareness about TB must be created in these groups, he said.
