Mysore/Mysuru: M.S. Rajappan (92), a cameraman, who had shot nearly 400 feature films and about 350 advertising shorts and documentaries, passed away at his residence in J.P. Nagar here this morning.

He leaves behind his wife Sathyaprema, daughter M.R. Radika (Chitra), son-in-law M.C. Rajanikanthraj Urs, grand- daughter Lakshmi and a host of relatives and friends.

Last rites were held at the foot of Chamundi Hill this afternoon.

Rajappan had shot a documentary of late writer R.K. Narayan for the BBC in 1989 and a brief interview of President V.V. Giri, which was shot at Rashtrapati Bhavan in 1970.

In 1955, Rajappan joined as an assistant cameraman to veteran special effects cameraman D.S. Kotnis. He had an opportunity to work under 40 well-known Indian, British and Hollywood cameramen and had the rare opportunity to work under Hollywood cameraman Gownther and special effects cameraman Mitt Rice for MGM film ‘Maya,’ a jungle thriller in English. Star of Mysore had published an article about Rajappan titled ‘Life through lens’ on Feb. 16, 2022.
