Cane growers launch indefinite stir

Mysuru: The indefinite stir (day-night) launched by sugar cane growers under the banner of Karnataka State Cane Growers  Association in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office demanding fulfilment of their various demands, entered the second day today.

The farmers are demanding minimum SAP (State Advisory Price) of Rs. 3,500 per tonne, payment of last year dues to the sugar cane growers by Bannari Amman Sugar factory, measures to put an end to reported cheating in sugar yield and sugar cane weight and a ban on crushing of sugar cane supplied from other areas, among others.

The farmers presented a memorandum to the DC urging for fulfilment of their demands.

The Association President Kurubur Shantakumar, Pushpa, Attahalli Devaraj, Bhagyaraj, Kiragasur Shankar, Krishnegowda, Vishwanath and others were present.
