Mysore/Mysuru: A minor boy, who was behind the wheels of a car that killed three of a family on Thursday night, has been sent to the Boys Remand Home while his father has been remanded to judicial custody for allowing his minor son to drive the car.
The minor boy’s father, who is working as an Assistant Sales Manager of a car company, had brought the demo car to give trial to customers, but had allegedly given the car to his minor son to drive, resulting in the minor boy ramming the car into a bike coming from the opposite direction near Dandi Maramma Temple on Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway killing three persons of a family on Thursday night.
N.R. Traffic Police, who had registered a case under IPC Section 304, had arrested boy and also arrested the father of the minor boy for giving the car to his minor son to drive. While the minor boy has been sent to the Boys Remand Home, his father has been remanded to judicial custody.
According to Traffic rules, it is a criminal offence to give vehicles to minors and to those who do not have Driving License. If a minor driving a vehicle commit an accident resulting in death, a case will be registered against the accused under IPC Section 304 (Punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.).
As per Supreme Court’s order, case will be registered against the owner of the vehicle for allowing a minor to drive or ride a vehicle and the vehicle will be seized. The law states that even if accident does not take place, a case will be registered by the Police against the vehicle owner for allowing a minor to drive the vehicle.
Senior Police Officials have asked the Traffic Police to strictly follow the above law and hence vehicle owners are advised not to give their vehicles to minors nor to those who do not have Driving License. In case a minor driving a vehicle commit an accident resulting in death, vehicle owner will be jailed, said a senior Police Officer to Star of Mysore.
