Care for the aged: Rotary Zonal Convention held

Rotary Zonal Convention (Zone-7,8&9) was organised by Rotary International (Dist. 3181) – ‘Care for the aged’ at Rotary West auditorium in Saraswathipuram  here yesterday.

Speaking after inaugurating the event, Past Rotary Governor (Dist. 3180) Rtn. M. Lakshminarayan regretted that the younger generation was more focussed on earning money rather than concentrating on maintaining their health.

Noting neglecting health in younger days may lead to health complications in later days, he said that proper planning was needed for maintaining health and as well as for a secured income. Explaining the benefits of Health Insurance, he said that having a health policy will be of great help as one ages.

Pointing out that loneliness and depression were the main issues concerning the aged, he called upon the youth to engage their aged parents in domestic activities so that they can forget their loneliness.

Observing that relationships cannot be measured in terms of monetary language, Rtn. Lakshminarayan said that it is Indian culture to come to the aid of the aged who were in trouble.

Stressing on the need to care for the aged in our society, which is rich in culture and traditions, he called for a good relationship between children and their aged parents in the larger interests of the society.

Swami Nithyasthanandaji of Ramakrishna Ashrama, Mysuru who graced the occasion, said that love, affection and care were integral part of our society.

Observing that true satisfaction can be achieved by helping others and bringing out the inner self, he called upon the people to engage themselves in creative activities in order to maintain their health and stay fit.

Advising the youth not to ditch their aged parents, he maintained that keeping elders happy was a great service to the society.

Veerabhadraswamy and others were present.
