Case takes a twist as injured man disappears

Mysuru: Mahimadas Bin Benjamin (45) of Mariyamangala village, who was reportedly injured and went into hiding following the Forest Department encounter in the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary, was admitted to a private hospital in Mysuru on Saturday night. However, his sudden discharge has raised questions about his whereabouts.

The encounter in the early hours of Saturday left three men dead. Mahimadas was reportedly injured in the exchange of fire and is said to have concealed himself in the forest, while the Forest Department declared him absconding. By Saturday evening, the Police had traced him and admitted him to a private hospital in Mysuru for treatment. Chamarajanagar District Minister C. Puttarangashetty, former MLA Narendra and DC Shreeroopa visited the hospital, enquired about his health and gathered details about the incident.

However, Mahimadas was discharged from the hospital yesterday and his whereabouts have since remained unknown.

His sudden discharge has added to the questions surrounding the encounter, with details of how and under whose supervision he left the hospital yet to emerge.

The development has further fuelled uncertainty over the sequence of events surrounding the controversial encounter.
