Catching helmetless riders: Cops must change modus operandi

Sir,

Come month ends, Police personnel would be busy stationing themselves at main roads, cross road corners all over the city to catch the helmetless riders, to collect penalty.

While the helmetless riders are to be penalised, the modus operandi of the traffic cops needs to be changed to avoid accidents that would happen because of helter-skelter moving of those riders to escape being caught by the Police.

As done in foreign countries, the traffic violators are to be caught by cctv cameras and notice for payment of penalty to be sent to their address and further the bank account details of every registered owner of vehicles to be stored and direct debit to their accounts is to be done.

Apart from the helmetless rider, non-strapped seat belt drivers, motorists who use mobiles while riding, those who jump the signals, move on wrong side and lanes pose more danger to the other law-abiding motorists and they are to be penalised heavily.

Hope, the Traffic Police authorities will give a serious thought to these aspects.
