Madikeri: The sacred Cauvery Theerthodbhava, marking the auspicious Tula Sankramana, will be held at Talacauvery in Kodagu district on Oct. 17, with the holy water expected to emerge at 7.50 pm.
This revered event marks the moment when the river Cauvery springs forth from the Brahmakundike. This year’s Theerthodbhava is expected to draw a larger crowd of devotees from both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
The schedule for various religious programmes at the Sri Bhagandeshwara and Sri Talacauvery temples as part of Cauvery Tula Sankramana Theerthodbhava 2026 festivities was announced following a meeting held at Bhagamandala under the chairmanship of Virajpet MLA A.S. Ponnanna yesterday.
At the Sri Bhagandeshwara Temple, the ‘Pathayakke Akki Haakuvudu’ ritual will be held on Sept. 27 at 8.45 am in Tula Lagna. The ‘Aajna Muhurtha’ will be performed on Oct. 5 at 10.35 am in Vrishabha Lagna.
On Oct. 15, the ‘Akshaya Patre’ ritual will be held at 12.35 pm in Dhanur Lagna, followed by a puja to the ‘Kanike Dabbis’ (donation boxes) at 6.03 pm on the same day in Meena Lagna. The main Theerthodbhava ritual will be held at Talacauvery on Oct. 17 at 7.50 pm, during the auspicious Mesha Lagna.
The Kodagu District Administration will make extensive preparations, with floral decorations at Bhagamandala and Talacauvery. Clean-up efforts, electric lighting, sound systems and parking facilities will be arranged to accommodate the influx of visitors.
