Mysuru: City-based Chamarajendra Government College of Visual Arts (CAVA) has organised CAVA Mela for the year 2023 from Jan. 20 to 22 at its premises in Siddarthanagar.
Addressing press persons at Pathrakartara Bhavana in city yesterday, CAVA Acting Dean A. Devaraju said that new buildings of CAVA will also be inaugurated on Jan. 20.
Giving details of the three-day event, Devaraju said that CAVA Mela-2023 will be inaugurated by District Minister S.T. Somashekar on Jan. 20 at 10.30 am while the new buildings of the institution will be inaugurated by Kannada & Culture Minister V. Sunil Kumar.
MLA Tanveer Sait will preside. Mayor Shivakumar, MPs Pratap Simha, V. Sreenivasa Prasad, Sumalatha Ambarish, all MLAs and MLCs and Chairmen of various Boards and Corporations will be present at the function, he said.
“CAVA Mela is being organised every year since 2005 during December-January, though it was suspended for the last two years because of COVID pandemic. This time we are organising the Mela in a special way. An expo of painting, sculpture, graphics, photography and photo-journalism will be held at the Mela,” he added.
Competitions
On Jan. 22, a special on-the-spot drawing and clay model competitions will be held for students from Class 1 to 12 under three categories — For Class 1 to 4, for Class 5 to 8 and for Class 9 to 12.There will be 5 awards in each category, said Devaraju.
“Interested students can register their names at the venue of the competition. The Mela will be open for public from 10 am to 8.30 pm. There will be cultural programmes every day from 5 pm and entry will be free.
CAVA’s Kuncha-Kavya Samskritika Samiti Secretary Pranav Bellare, who also spoke, said that at the Mela, the art creations of CAVA students will be on display at four stalls and there will be also be a food stall.
CAVA Lecturer and HoD of Applied Art Binduraya R. Biradar, Lecturer Prof. Chandrashekar and Kuncha Kavya Joint Secretary Dhruvaraj were present at the press conference.
