CCB Police nab four notorious chain-snatchers

Rs. 5,80,000 worth gold jewellery recovered, 2 two-wheelers seized

Mysore/Mysuru: Following increased incidents of chain-snatching, City Police Commissioner Dr. Chandragupta had constituted a special team comprising City Crime Branch (CCB) Police Officers and staff to trace and nab the chain-snatchers. 

On July 26, the special CCB Police team arrested four notorious chain-snatchers, who were moving around in a suspicious manner on two-wheelers near Shivanna Circle in Rajivnagar and subjected them to interrogation.

According to a press release from the Office of the City Police Commissioner, the arrested are 23-year-old Ayaz Khan and 20-year-old Tousif Pasha, both painters by profession and residents of Shanthinagar, 22-year-old Tousif Baig, a welder and 25-year-old Shoaib Pasha, both residents of Rajivnagar.

During interrogation, the accused are said to have confessed of snatching gold chains in Nazarbad, Narasimharaja, Krishnaraja, Mandi, Kuvempunagar and Vijayanagar Police Station limits. Following the arrest, the CCB Police have solved a total of six chain-snatching cases in city. 

The Cops have seized a Mahindra Centuro bike, used by accused Ayaz Khan and Tousif Baig to snatch gold chain in Udayagiri Police limits.

Following information from the accused, the CCB Police have recovered gold jewellery worth Rs. 5,80,000 from them and have seized 2 two-wheelers used for the crime. During interrogation, the Police also came to know that all the accused were involved in various cases earlier.

DCP (Crime and Traffic) M.S. Geetha Prasanna and CCB ACP C.K. Ashwathnarayan guided CCB Inspector R. Jagadish and staff in the nabbing and seizing operation.
