Centenarian freedom fighter M.G.Chengappa passes away

Mysuru: Veteran freedom fighter Malavanda G. Chengappa, a resident of No. 5, Chaitra Apartment, S. V. Road, Yadavagiri, passed away at a private hospital, here this morning following a brief illness. He was 104 years old.

He is the elder brother of Congress leader late M.G. Kuttappa. He was a freedom fighter fromKodagu, who had been jailed for several months.

He also had the good fortune of interacting with Father of our Nation Mahatma Gandhi in Kodagu. He had strongly fought for liquor prohibition in Kodagu.

He leaves behind his wife Sharada Chengappa (Pattamada), daughter Prema Chengappa and host of relatives and friends.  

Last rites were performed today at Chirashantidhama in Gokulam this afternoon.
