Chaduranga had accepted Bandaya Sahitya as his own, says MP Dr. Hanumanthaiah

January 3, 2022

Mysore/Mysuru: Maintaining that litterateur Dr. Subramanya Raje Urs, who was popularly known as Chaduranga, had accepted Dalit Bandaya Sahitya as his own,  Congress Rajya Sabha MP Dr. L. Hanumanthaiah said that just like Kuvempu, Chaduranga too scripted mythological characters in accordance with  contemporary times in his works.

He was speaking at the 107th birth anniversary of Chaduranga at a programme organised by Anveshana Seva Trust at the Institution of Engineers on JLB road here on Jan.1.

Pointing out that Chaduranga lent a voice to the exploited and oppressed sections of the society through his literary works, Dr. Hanumanthaiah observed  that the great writer also  propagated human and life values in his books.

Noting that though Chaduranga came from a rich family he led a simple and humble life, the MP said that though Chaduranga did not write many books, all his books are valuable and documentable ones.

Asserting that Chaduranga sought to send out a message to the society through films which were based on his works, he opined that his works focused much on life values. He also contended that Chaduranga had concerns even for the last person in the lower strata of the society.

Columnist and retired Police officer J.B. Rangaswamy, who presided, recalled his association with Chaduranga.

Vijayalakshmi Urs, daughter-in-law of Chaduranga, who was the guest of honour, said that Chaduranga’s life was like an open book and she never saw Chaduranga agitated for any reason. Recalling that Chaduranga used to discuss with her before writing a book, she recalled that Chaduranga treated her like his daughter.
