Chain snatched at Vasanthnagar

Chain snatchers now shift from two-wheelers to four-wheelers

Mysore/Mysuru: Miscreants, who came in a car snatched a gold chain from an elderly woman at Vasanthnagar in city on Tuesday afternoon.

The woman, who lost her 50 gram gold chain worth Rs. 2.50 lakh is 65-year-old Sharada, who was going to her son’s house on the 4th Main Road in the locality.

Sharada’s son serves in the Army and her daughter-in-law and grand-children reside in Vasanthnagar.

Sharada, who had come to Mysuru to visit her daughter-in-law and grand-children, went to Chamundi Hill on Tuesday morning. At about 1 pm, Sharada came in a city bus and got down at Vasanthnagar Bus Stop.

She was speaking to her husband on her mobile phone and was walking towards her son’s residence. A blue coloured car came from behind and one of the occupants, who got down, tried to snatch her gold chain. Though Sharada held on to her chain and screamed for help, the chain-snatcher managed to snatch the gold chain and jumped into the moving car, which sped away.

Sharada sustained minor injuries on her neck and lodged a complaint at Alanahalli Police Station. The Police, who have registered a case, are investigating.

From bikes to cars

Earlier, chain snatchers, who were using high end bikes to commit chain snatching, are now using cars. They move around in four-wheelers in isolated places, target lonely women, commit the crime and flee from the spot.

About 10 days ago, miscreants who came in a car had snatched a gold chain from a lonely woman at Kotehundi village on H.D. Kote Road.

The miscreants, who had come in a car without a registration number plate on the pretext of seeking an address from a woman who was tending sheep at Kotehundi village, snatched her 20 gram gold chain and had sped away.

It is learnt that similar attempt was made near Yelwal, during which the woman fell on the ground, sustained serious injuries and had to undergo a surgery. It seems that chain snatchers have shifted to four-wheelers thinking that it is safe.

It is high time Police take action and save the public from such incidents.
