Mysuru: After a brief lull, chain-snatchers have struck again by snatching gold chains from elderly women at Rajendranagar, Geetha Road and Tilak Nagar here yesterday morning.
7.45 am: In the first incident, 63-year-old Gayathri, a resident of Rajendranagar, was plucking flowers inside the compound of her house when two persons wearing helmets came on a bike and stopped near her house.
While one rider was seated on the bike, the pillion rider approached her on the pretext of asking the location of a hospital, thus diverting her attention. Within seconds, the pillion rider snatched her 60 grams gold chain and fled from the spot along with the person on the bike.
N.R. Police Inspector Ashok Kumar and staff, who arrived at the spot after half-an-hour, conducted mahazar besides registering a case.
8.15 am: In the second incident, 77-year-old Suvarna was watering the plants in front of her house on Geetha Road, adjoining Vani Vilas Road, when two persons wearing full face helmets came on a bike and approached her on the pretext of asking an address and managed to snatch her 80 grams gold chain and fled from the spot. Lakshmipuram Inspector Raghu, ASI Gowrishankar and staff, who rushed to the spot, conducted mahazar and have registered a case.
10.45 am: In the third incident, two youths have managed to snatch a 40 grams gold chain from 75-year-old Sujaya, who was standing in front of her house in Tilak Nagar near Highway Circle here. The two youths approached Sujaya, showed her a chit on the pretext of asking the address and managed to yank off the gold chain, before fleeing from the spot. Mandi Inspector Ansar Ali and staff, who rushed to the spot, conducted a search for the culprits but in vain and later registered a case.
It is suspected that the miscreants who have targeted elderly women in all the three incidents could be the same gang members as the modus-operandi in all the three incidents were the same. The Police, soon after the incidents, have installed barricades on all prominent roads, junctions and circles in city and are checking two-wheeler riders.
