Chain-snatchers target women

Mysore/Mysuru: Two chain-snatching incidents have been reported in city. While chain-snatchers managed to yank off a part of the gold chain in the first incident on New Kantharaj Urs Road, the miscreants had to flee from the spot after dropping the gold chain on the road in Vidyaranyapuram.

In the first incident, a 42-year-old woman, who was proceeding on her scooter with her friend riding pillion, lost a part of her gold chain to chain-snatchers near Bandanthamma Kalamma Temple on New Kantharaj Urs Road in Saraswathipuram yesterday.

The woman, who lost her gold chain, is Bhama, a resident of Agrahara Circle. Yesterday at about 7 pm, Bhama was proceeding from Vijaya Bank Circle towards Apollo BGS Hospital side on her scooter, when two miscreants dressed in black, came on a black coloured bike from behind and the pillion rider managed to yank off 10 grams of the total 25 grams gold chain of Bhama and sped away.

Bhama, who lost control of the scooter fell down along with her friend and both suffered minor injuries.

Saraswathipuram Police, who rushed to the spot, conducted mahazar, registered a case and have launched a hunt to nab the chain-snatchers.

In the second incident, the miscreants, also wearing black dress and riding a black bike, snatched a gold chain of a woman near Kavitha Bakery in Vidyaranyapuram at about  8 pm yesterday.

As the gold chain fell on the road, the miscreants had to flee from the spot empty handed. No complaint has been lodged in this case and it is suspected that the chain- snatchers in the first incident may have attempted to snatch the chain in Vidyaranyapuram also.
