Temple main door closed for half a day

Mysuru: Raju (37), who was serving as a security guard at Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hill for eight years, passed away following a brief illness on Monday night in Mandya.

A resident of Kurubara Beedhi atop Chamundi Hill, Raju, who was called as Shivaarchaka, leaves behind his parents, wife, two daughters and a host of relatives and friends.

Following his demise, the main door of Sri Chamundeshwari Temple was closed for half-a-day yesterday and devotees were allowed inside the Temple from the north door.

The body was brought to his residence atop Chamundi Hill and the last rites were held yesterday afternoon.

Main door closed

If people of any community residing atop Chamundi Hill passes away, the main door of Sri Chamundeshwari Temple will be closed and devotees are allowed inside the temple through the Temple’s north door.

After the last rites are performed, a special puja will be performed and the Temple’s main door will be opened, a practice, which is being followed for ages.
