Chamundi Hill and Nanjangud temples to remain closed on weekends and holidays

Mysore/Mysuru: Based on the Centre’s fresh guidelines on the extra-precautionary measures to be taken to stop the spread of the deadly Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G. Sankar has ordered closure of Chamundeshwari temple atop Chamundi Hill and Srikanteshwaraswamy temple at Nanjangud on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) and all public holidays.

The Government had allowed re-opening of all places of worship, religious spots and spiritual centres from June 8 following relaxation in lockdown curbs and accordingly Chamundeshwari temple and Nanjangud temple opened for devotees.

Now, subsequent to the Centre’s fresh guidelines on crowd control, the DC has ordered closure of the two temples on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

The vehicles of devotees are allowed to travel only on the road leading from Tavarekatte side to Chamundi Hill, while all other entry routes to the hill temple have been closed.

However, there is no change in the temple timings on weekdays. Chamundeshwari temple will be open for devotees from 7.30 am to 1 pm and 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm while Nanjangud temple will be open from 7 am to 1 pm and 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm, from Monday through Friday. Devotees have to maintain physical distancing, undergo thermal screening and wear face masks during temple visit.

No ‘Mudi Seva’

The Deputy Commissioner has banned ‘Mudi Seva’ (tonsuring of head) at Nanjangud temple as a safety measure.
