Chamundi Hill Development: Some thoughts

Sir,

I went through K.B. Ganapathy’s Abracadabra titled “Tale of a Hill called Chamundi in Mysuru: My thoughts on saving the Hill” in SOM dated March 13, 2022 and wish to record my opinions too.

1. The idea of Chamundi Hill Development Authority is a very wise one. Government must implement it very urgently.

2. Banning all constructions on the hill and villages at foothill is need of the hour.

3. Conduct geological survey to protect the hill with suitable technology.

4. Steps to the temple must be developed to facilitate devotees who wish visit the temple by foot. The Hill Development Authority must provide shelters and drinking water. Devotees must be screened at foothill for any snacks and plastic they carry so as to prevent it from getting deposited along the hill.

5. Roadside hawkers who are the main source of pollution must be barred.

6. Implementing Ropeway is the only way to protect the hill. With increase in affordability of 2 and 4 wheelers, the traffic is increasing day by day and apart from devotees it is more of youngsters for whom the hill is a hangout. I do not understand the reason for objecting to Ropeway.

7. Deploy more personnel with latest tech gadgets to enforce vigil for green cover as well as to check nuisance.
